The Archbishop of Santo Domingo recently referred to openly gay people as “faggots” while discussing the nominee for U.S. ambassador to the Dominican Republic.
Reporters questioned Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez on June 27 about the nomination of James “Wally” Brewster, an openly gay Democratic fundraiser and LGBT activist.
“You can expect just about anything from the United States and no one in this country can say they don’t know my view on this issue: I absolutely disagree with those sorts of opinions and preferences,” the Catholic Cardinal responded.
When Rodriguez was later questioned about the Haitian boycott of Dominican poultry products, he used an anti-gay slur to describe Brewster.
“We go from faggots and lesbians to this? We’re jumping to chickens now?” he replied.
